NUS Graduate Virtual Open House Web Application

Open House Virtual Fair to Attract Top Global Graduates into NUS
Virtual open house web application for NUS to showcase its PhD research opportunities to attract top global talents, and strengthen its position as a leading institution in graduate education and research globally.

Role
Lead Product Manager and Designer

Launch Date
4 October 2022

User Base
770 prospective graduates, 32 faculty deans and professors, 43 faculty administrators
Methodology
User Research
Conducted primary user research (through means of registration survey) to find out what prospective graduates will like to learn more about NUS through the open house
Key Insights From User Research
Card sorted user responses into major theme baskets:

Know more about graduate programs and research opportunities
Understand our scholarships better
Get to meet professors and learn about their areas of expertise
See career support offered and outcomes of our PhD education
Curious about entry requirements
Chat with NUS graduates about PhD student and campus life
Know more about research infrastructure and start up incubators
Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts
Curious about networking opportunities
Created 4 Categories of User Personas Based on Responses Collated
Turning Key Insights into Initial Concepts
Key pages and digital sketches are proposed, based on the insights generated from user research

As a significant portion of our registrants come from different time zones or might have busy schedules, the strategy is to have a mix of "live" and "on-demand" events. All "live events" would be recorded and broken down into bite sized segments and made accessible as "on-demand" playbacks for those that might have missed them
Low Fidelity Prototyping
User Experience Testing
I conducted an unmoderated user experience testing with 10 colleagues to critique and validate these design ideas, and see if there are any confusing moments as a first time participant of the open house
Refining Designs Based on Feedback
Added a clickable "scrolling ticker" at the bottom of all pages to "broadcast" live events and to direct traffic to various pages
Added a sticky "Live Help Desk" button on every page to provide live assistance throughout the event
Added a "live message board" that pops up on various pages to let user know "live events" are happening in those pages
Added "zoom" icon to buttons featuring "live chat" functionality
Second Round of User Experience Testing
Dashboard System
Contents of the faculty booth page could be edited by faculty administrators "live" via dashboard system. This will also be where administrators post "live messages" to get students to chat with them through zoom
